CYAPs Conference 2018

Lived experience - Reshaping the future for children, young people and families

The Children and Youth Area Partnerships Conference 2018 will bring together our diverse stakeholders to demonstrate the significance and value of using lived experience and powerful community engagement with co-design, research and evaluation methodologies to drive system and practice change.  

The conference will showcase projects across the eight CYAPs. Partners will come together to workshop ideas about how to shift the conditions that hold problems in place.     

Keynote speakers  

  • Rosie Batty will lead the discussion on lived experience as a powerful driver of change and reform. Rosie will reflect on her four year journey of working with state government leadership, her expectations for action and accountability, and her ongoing role as Chair of the Victims’ Advisory Council for the Victorian Government. 
  • Liz Weaver will inspire with her passion and depth of knowledge and experience in working with local communities and diverse partners to achieve social change. Liz will provide a systems-level view of the power of communities coming together and engaging deeply to achieve sustainable change. Liz will share valuable insights around the importance of community engagement and, innovation, emphasising the need to turn outward to engage deeply and use all local resources to shift ways of working to achieve meaningful impact. 
  • Professor Pamela Snow will highlight the importance of policy makers and practitioners being able to source and critique new research evidence, and determine the appropriateness of its translation into practice. Issues to be covered will include locating and critiquing evidence, levels of evidence, identification of pseudoscience, and understanding of cognitive bias, implementation and fidelity, and identifying markers of success.
